There are a couple of different affiliate progams that can help you make money online. There are affiliate referrals, pay per click, pay per impression, and contextual affiliates. You will need to choose the affiliates you want to use to make your money with.

Referral Affiliates

Referral affiliates are either displayed in banner, product, or text link form. Depending on the affiliate that is being used, they will either pay a set amount, or a percentage of the sale.

Pay-Per-Click Affiliates

Pay-Per-Click is where an advertising company gives you a set of text links or banner advertisements and you get paid depending on how many people click on one or more of the advertisements. Some programs will pay you a set amount per link and others will make one link pay more than another.

Pay-Per-Impression Affiliates

Pay-Per-Impression is just what it means. Everytime a user opens up your website you get paid a certain amount for either a text link or banner advertisement to be on the page. Usually these programs will pay out a certain amount per thousand impressions. These types of advertisements are usually used on very high traffic websites.

Contextual Affiliates

Contextual advertising is when a company gives you a code to implement into your website. They then use this code to pick words or phrases in your text, create links, and advertise with them.

When you join affiliate programs make sure you read the User Agreements to see the specific details of the program you choose. You do not want to start making money online and then find out they had a reason to cancel your account.

Placement of Affiliate Ads

The placement of ads will sometimes have to do with how much money you make online. How you place affiliates on your site will depend on what type of site you have. Everybody that uses affiliate marketing has their own style. I have found that keeping the advertisements towards the top of the page or in the text seems to make more money. For instance, If you are going to run a pay per click affiliate program with banner advertisments, you would want them towards the top of the page. You will make the most money there. If you are going to recommend a service or specific product on your website, you would want a text link or picture advertisement near the part of the text where you are doing the recommendation.

When you are using affiliate marketing, it is recommended that you make the advertisement or text link open up in a new window or tab. This way if the internet user is not interested in the affiliate advertisement that was displayed they will not forget the website that they were on originally and continue browsing.
